How to Make Lasting Change Video #1

Hey there! Dr. Woolner here.

Over the course of the few videos, what I’m going to share with you is a subject that I think is absolutely critical for anyone and everyone that is looking to make improvements in their lives; whether you’re looking to lose weight, whether you’re looking to build muscle, whether you’re looking to improve some sort of a chronic health condition or if you’re just simply looking to make improvements in other areas of your life, this is an absolute must for you.

This subject that I am going to talk about over the course of a few videos is this idea of how to go about creating lasting changes. This is what I call the 5 Five Steps to Creating Lasting Changes.

So, like I said before this is a critical step for anyone and there’s plenty of proof out there of people who have been able to do this - create changes that stick and last. All of us are probably familiar with come New Years’ time, we make our New Year’s resolution and New Year’s resolution are pretty notorious for not lasting much more than a month. People tend to fall off and things are kind of trail off. Six months down the road we kind of completely forgotten about them, right?

So it’s summer time outside and what I want to do is get some kind of a jump start on this and give you some fuel and some ideas for when that time comes, hopefully sooner than later, you can go about making lasting changes.

The first step in creating changes that last, is how to create a compelling vision. Most of us may not recognize or even realize it but the vast majority of the decisions that we make in our life are purely emotional decisions. Even a decision as fundamentally life altering as marriage is purely based off emotion. Now, a lot of people may not necessarily agree with this but it’s true.

When we look at who we marry, why do we even decide to marry them? We do so because we are in love, right? We do not do so out of a biological necessity. We don’t view it from that stand point.

And then on the flip side to that point, why do we get divorced? We get divorced because that person we used to love, we now hate, right? And so, it’s okay that we make decisions based of our emotion.

But here’s the secret:

"In life, we can either be used by our emotions, or we can use our emotions to our advantage."

And it really is that simple we can make that choice as soon as we recognize that emotions are really what compel us and drive us. But far too often people are just on this default mode on just being used by their emotions each and every day; life is kind of acting on them rather them acting and be proactive with their life.

So, step 1, create a compelling vision So, how do you do this? It’s really simple, the more clearer you can get, the better. So I talked about this idea with clarity comes power. So one of the best steps that you can take and get in the habit of doing is writing things down. Some people talk about goal setting; some people have whole courses devoted towards goal-setting and things like that.

All I’m simply going for say for you is this: get as clear as possible.  If you want something, create the most compelling vision possible of what it is you want and why you want it.

Talk about and answer questions of things like: Why do you want this thing? What are you willing to do to get it? What’s it look like specifically? How soon are you going to get that or how soon in your vision are you going to accomplish that thing that you’re looking for?

The Book of Proverbs in the bible says, “Where there’s a lack of vision my people perished, vision is essential for our progress and our momentum forward in making lasting changes.” The clearer the vision that you can create for yourself, the more likely you will be able to achieve what it is that you’re looking for.

For instance, if you’re looking to lose weight, you need to set a specific goal. How much weight are you going to lose?  How do you want to lose it? When do you want to lose it by? What are you willing to do to make that change? You may not know all of the answers at first but the more clear you can get with as much as you can get the more likely you’re going to be able to accomplish that thing that you’re looking to change into your like.

So that’s the first step, create a compelling vision.  And what will wind up happening is that compelling vision will become an anchor. You can use your emotions in a very powerful and a very real way to make changes that will last and this is the first step.

In the next article, what I’m going to go over is step number 2 “How to use Momentum in the Right Direction” to continue this process of making lasting changes.

Hopefully you’ve got a lot out of this. Like I said, create your own compelling vision for the things that you want to change in your life. Get really clear with it and with that clarity will come great power. Thanks for reading. Contact our chiropractor team in Meridian, ID to find out more.
